Selling a car for export is an option for vehicles such as high-mileage cars, diesels, ex-lease cars and company vans. Auto Export België helps in two ways. You can ask for an offer through our network of car dealers abroad, free and without obligation. Or, if you have already found a buyer in Belgium yourself, we arrange the export so that the car leaves the Dutch register properly and both of you get the right papers.

After the sale, the buyer can drive away on white export plates.

Which cars we can offer for export

We look at cars built in 2008 or later, for example:

  • cars with more than 200,000 km on the clock;
  • diesel cars;
  • ex-lease cars;
  • company vans;
  • damaged cars.

Not sure whether your car fits? Send the details anyway; asking costs nothing. Photos of the outside, the interior, the mileage and any damage give the companies abroad a clear picture.

Selling a car for export in four steps

  1. You send us the vehicle details (registration number, make and model, year of manufacture, mileage, fuel, condition and any damage) and photos, by WhatsApp or the form on this page.
  2. We pass the vehicle on to our network of car dealers abroad. They make an offer.
  3. We pass the offer on to you, and you decide.
  4. If you accept, the transfer for export can take place at our desk in Hengelo.

Requesting an offer is free and commits you to nothing. The offer comes from the companies abroad, not from us, and there is no certainty that an offer will come. We don't buy cars ourselves: we mediate and arrange the export papers.

The cars our export partners are looking for

  • Mileage above 200,000 km
  • Diesel cars
  • Ex-lease cars
  • Company vans
  • Damaged cars
  • Built in 2008 or later

Free and without obligation: requesting an offer costs you nothing

How it works

  1. You send us the details and photos of your car, via the form or WhatsApp.
  2. We pass your car's details on to our network of car dealers abroad. They may make an offer.
  3. If an offer comes in, we forward it to you. You decide whether to sell.
  4. Agreed? The export transfer can take place at our desk in Hengelo: you receive the vrijwaringsbewijs (proof of deregistration), the buyer receives the export documents and, if needed, export insurance and two white plates.

We act as an intermediary; the offer comes from a car dealer abroad. There is no guarantee of an offer.

The export transfer at our desk

When a car is sold abroad, it is not transferred to the foreign buyer in the Dutch register. The RDW's advice is to make sure the buyer exports the vehicle in their own name. At the transfer, the buyer receives the export certificate (kentekenbewijs deel II) in their name and you receive the vrijwaringsbewijs, proof that your registration has ended. From then on, you no longer have to insure the car, keep a valid APK (the Dutch roadworthiness test) or pay Dutch motor vehicle tax.

If the buyer drives the car to the destination country, they can also take export insurance and two white export plates. The buyer pays for the export papers and any insurance and plates. More about each document on our page about Dutch car export documents.

Selling to a buyer in Belgium yourself

Found a buyer in Belgium through your own advert? Then the buyer exports the car in their own name, at our desk or at another approved export company, and takes care of the Belgian steps: the E705 vignette, the technical inspection and the registration with the DIV. Our page on registering a car in Belgium explains them.

You can make those steps easier for your buyer. Hand over all original papers with nothing written on them, and a purchase invoice with the details the Belgian side asks for: the price excluding VAT, the names and full addresses of buyer and seller, make, model, chassis number, date of first registration, mileage, payment method and delivery date. If the buyer can't come to the Netherlands, a contact person here may arrange the export, according to the RDW. If the buyer wants to drive the car home, our export insurance for Belgium covers the trip for 14 days.

Selling a car for export at our Hengelo desk

Our desk is open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 16:30; on Sunday we open by appointment at a higher rate. Please call or send a WhatsApp message before you come, so we can check that the papers are complete. For the export we need the registration card with its code (or the old paper parts), the yellow Dutch plates, the current mileage, the buyer's full address abroad and a valid identity document of the person in whose name the export is arranged. With complete documents, a standard export is usually ready in about 15 minutes.

Thank you! We will contact you as soon as possible. In a hurry? Call or WhatsApp +31 6 38199986.

Selling a car abroad or to a Belgian buyer: questions

Do I pay anything for requesting an offer from abroad?

No. Requesting an offer is free and without obligation. The buyer pays for the export papers and any insurance and plates.

Is Auto Export België the buyer of my car?

No. We pass your car to our network of car dealers abroad and forward their offer. We mediate and arrange the export papers, and there is no certainty that an offer will come.

Can a diesel with over 200,000 km still get an export offer?

Send us the details. We look at cars built in 2008 or later, and high-mileage cars, diesels, ex-lease cars, company vans and damaged cars are exactly the kind of vehicles we pass on. Whether an offer follows is up to the companies abroad.

I have found a buyer in Belgium. How does the transfer work?

The buyer exports the car in their own name and receives the export certificate (kentekenbewijs deel II); you receive the vrijwaringsbewijs. The buyer then arranges the E705, the technical inspection and the DIV registration in Belgium.

What happens to my Dutch insurance and road tax after the sale?

After the export, the insurance obligation, the APK obligation and the motor vehicle tax stop for you as the Dutch owner.
